Get the AR Scoop..........on your child's AR performance.

We firmly believe the MORE students READ, the BETTER they READ. This is why we are big supporters of the Accelerated Reader Program.

We look at AR reports every week and want to make sure our parents have access to their child's progress. By clicking on this link: https://hosted296.renlearn.com/74356/HomeConnect
You will be asked to supply a login and password. This information has been sent home with your child if they are in grades 2 - 6. First graders will start after the Christmas holidays. Your child should know their AR login and password. This is what you use.

For your convenience we have added a direct link, just click on AR HOME CONNECT located on the left side on the blog at the top. We strongly recommend that our students look at this site, too. Students may only take an AR test at school. But there is a book shelf displaying the books they have read, their points, percentage, and how close they are to their goal!

*****Parents can receive emails EVERY time your child takes a test. Just click on EMAIL SETUP at the top of this site!

PE Star Student of the Week 9-12-14

This week’s star student is a very dependable student.  She always walks in a straight line and she never talks in the quiet zone.  You can count on her to follow directions and work hard to complete all of her work without playing in the classroom.  She is a fun student to have in class because of her attitude.  Great job Jacie P. for being this week’s brightest star!

AR Winner's Cup Goes to...

THE GIRLS! Congratulations to the R. L Young girls, who by reading and testing well, managed to take the Winner's Cup from the boys this week by a landslide (15 girls to 10 boys on the Top 20 AR Board).  Representing the girls, is Gracyn S. She challenged all girls in grades 2-6 to step up and READ during the annual AR Kickoff!
This year R. L. Young has something new...a friendly competition between our boys and girls. Each week the principal lists the top 20 AR Readers on a cool neon light up board in the main building hallway of the school. The twist is that we are counting the total number of boys and girls on the board.

At the AR Kickoff, Ethan N., a sixth grader in Mrs. Lamberth's class, challenged all boys in the school in grades (2-6) to earn a spot on the top 20 board. The boys rose to the challenge and 14 boys claimed their place. The girls were challenged by Gracyn S., a fourth grader in Mrs. Wilson's class. They were close with only 2 short of the win. There was a total of 26 names on the board!

Ethan and Gracyn were selected for the challenge because they were on last year's Top 20 Board. They serve as leaders and motivators for the students.

As principal, I am proud of all of our readers. We are currently at 89.1 % for our school average. If your child is not participating, please encourage them to get a good book from the library and take a test. This will strengthen their reading abilities!

R. L. Young...Proud American School

Our flags are flying high outside the school today. After saying the Pledge of Allegiance, we took a moment to reflect on 9/11 and the tragedy that occurred that day. We also did a "shout out" to all of the men and women who protect our country and its borders every day. We are proud to be an elementary school in the good ole' USA!

PE Star Student of the Week 9-5-14

This week’s star student always has a big smile on her face.  She works very hard to do the right thing in every situation.  She follows directions and is always trying her best.  She is a joy to have in class.  Great job Paisley H. and keep up the great work!

PE Star Student of the Week 8-29-14

This week’s star student is truly a special student.  He is wonderful because he shares, he is honest, and he is respectful.  He is liked by all of his classmates because of his never changing attitude and the way he treats everyone equally.  He is a pleasure to be around, and I look for great things to come his way.  Great job Jacob S. and keep up the great work!

2014 Jump Rope For Heart

Jump Rope For Heart has began!  Students will be jumping rope during their PE times to promote a healthy body and mind.  Each day students will be given facts about how to stay active and healthy.  Encourage your child to have someone in mind who they can jump for.  Jump Rope for Heart will last for 2 weeks and at the end of the 2 weeks our students will have a jump rope competition for each grade to see who can jump rope the most times without stopping.  All checks should be made out to the American Heart Association, and all money should be turned in on 9/22/14.  This program is a great way to show our future leaders how to live a healthy life and how to help others.  Let's start jumping!!
