Building a Love of Reading!

After reading Judy Blume's Freckle Juice, students in Ms. Glidewell's 2nd grade class created their very own recipes for "freckle juice". What an engaging and fun lesson!

Library Ninjas

Students have been visiting the Library Media Center  this week to learn what it takes to be a Library Ninja.

Students learned about proper book care. Then, they created a Library Ninja Boomark. Finally, they used Secret Library Ninja Code to create their Library Ninja Name.

Kory had a vision to provide a sound system for R. L. Young.  Despite a number of obstacles, he and Bemiston Baptist Church made this happen with a generous gift of a sound system and speakers from Tommy Strickland.  This project involved a lot of hard work, resources, and support from Bemiston Baptist Church members Travis & Susan Ray, Alan Nunn, and Julie Burel.

Welcome New Staff to R. L. Young

We have three new staff members at 

R. L. Young!

Courtney Glidewell is our new second grade teacher.  She has been working all summer getting her classroom ready.  Miss Glidewell is enthusiastic and looking forward to meeting her new students!  We are so glad to have her at R. L. Young!

Michael Wilson (Mr. Mike) is our new custodian.  He has worked so hard getting all three buildings and the grounds ready.  We appreciate all that he has done to make everything look great!  We are excited to have him at Young!

Ellen Carroll is our new library media specialist.  She has so many new ideas to share with our students.  This summer we were fortunate to have Mrs. Carroll lead our teachers in a special professional development retreat centered around technology ideas teachers can use in the classroom. We are so happy to have her at R. L. Young!
