Community feasts brings out hundreds in Sylacauga, Childersburg

Community feasts brings out hundreds in Sylacauga, Childersburg: On Thanksgiving, the McCurleys were among hundreds of people to converge on Reaching the World Bible Church in Sylacauga for the 11th annual community Thanksgiving dinner.

Very proud of Isaac Wilson, featured in the picture accompanying this article on the front page of the newspaper. Great example of the type of students and parents we have at R. L. Young, always looking for ways to make a difference in the lives of others.

R. L. Young Teams up with RED CROSS

For the first few days of December, R. L. Young students will be given an opportunity to make cards for members of the U.S. Armed Forces, veterans and their families for the holidays. If you are affiliated with a church or civic organization, please see guidelines, or check this link: http://www.redcross.org/support/get-involved/holiday-mail-for-heroes

The guidelines our teachers will be following are below:
·        Ensure that all cards are signed.
·        Use generic salutations such as “Dear Service Member.” Cards addressed to specific individuals can not be delivered through this program.

·        Only cards are being accepted. Do not send or include letters.

·        Do not include email or home addresses on the cards: the program is not meant to foster pen pal relationships.

·   Do not include inserts of any kind, including photos: these items will be removed during the reviewing process.

·        Please refrain from choosing cards with glitter or using loose glitter as it can aggravate health issues of ill and injured warriors.

If you are mailing a large quantity of cards, please bundle them and place them in large mailing envelopes or flat rate postal shipping boxes. Each card does not need its own envelope, as envelopes will be removed from all cards before distribution.

Extra Hour Gained...YEA!

Thank You, Heritage Hall!

On behalf of all R. L. Young 4th graders and their teachers, THANK YOU to Heritage Hall for supplying an ART ENRICHMENT Program this year. All materials are provided by the museum and the goal was to target one grade level across the district. Each year the fourth grade group would experience the enrichment program.

Our students have enjoyed the extra opportunity to be creative in visual arts and look forward to continuing lessons in performing and language arts after students return in January.
Kudos to Mrs. Kelly Williams from the museum for making all of the arrangements and including Talladega City Schools in this project!
