What does kindergarten writing look like? - Milestones from GreatSchools

Welcome Ms. Norman

Ms. Norman, Second Grade

We are excited to introduce you to the newest teacher at R.L. Young, Ms. Norman.

Ms. Patricia "Tricia" Norman has jumped right in feet first as the new second grade teacher. Her birthday is April 13th. She says that her favorite activity is visiting with her grandchildren Bryce (5), Chloe Ann (4), and Aiden (1). She has two children, a son BT and daughter Brenna.

Ms. Norman's favorite color is purple and favorite flower is wisteria. She likes Hazel-Mocha coffee and loves to shop at Kohl's, Target and Starbucks. Her past jobs include being a library assistant and preschool teacher.  Ms. Norman completed her elementary education degree at the age of 57. What an accomplishment!

An interesting fact she shared with us is that her son was born on the Island of Guam. She was born a Texan but has traveled all over the world, especially in the Orient. Ms. Norman says the most important person in her life is Jesus first and then her children second.

When you see Ms. Norman around Young or town please say hello and let her know how happy we are to have her at R.L. Young.

QR Codes at RL Young

You may have noticed black boxes attached to the front of library books coming home or saw our new display board outside of the library media center. So what are these mysterious boxes? They are QR codes. Some contain links for you to download a digital copy of the book free of charge and yours to keep. Others may contain links to web pages that continue the learning process when students finish reading their book.

We invite you to bring your phones or tablets in to download the eBooks on the wall outside the media center the next time you are at R.L. Young.

If you are unsure how to do this, please follow these steps:

1. Go to apple iTunes store or Google play store and search for QR Reader. Download the QR reader to your device.

2. Once you have downloaded the app to your device you open the scanner and point it to the bar code on the front of the book like you are taking a picture.

3. The scanner will automatically detect the bar code and open the digital copy of the book. When it opens the book you can choose to download it to iBooks on your apple device and it will be stored there. The book will always be in the history of your QR reader as a link that you can open if you do not want to save it to the device.

In the near future a new set of codes will be added to the QR wall. This is a great way to offer even more books for our students. Please contact Mrs. Taylor the library media specialist if you have any questions. I will be glad to help you download the app or add the book to your devices.
