As students returned from Christmas vacation, they were in for a big surprise! Each child selected a journal to kick off a writing explosion throughout the school.
Our hardworking students have a new avenue to explore....being a writer. The children began their journey by creating an EXPERT list. This list will offer a direction of many topics they might choose to write about, but of course, events that occur in their lives can be a journal entry, too.
As principal, I have enjoyed taking a peek and discovering some very talented kids. For example, Tyler A. has something very special to share, a new baby sister. He proudly shared his journal page with me.
His entry:
"I have a new baby sister. She is 0 years old. Her name is Emily Ann. She is the best sister there ever could be made in the world."
What a priceless display of love and pride. Writing can be very difficult, but when children are given opportunities to share their thoughts and supported as they learn writing skills, they flourish and grow.
Lauren A. wrote about taking a cruise. You can see by her face that she is very excited. She can't wait to get in the ship's hot tub.
I will keep you posted on the school's progress and look forward to sharing more student work.
