2013-14 SCHOOL - PARENT COMPACT
Raymond L. Young Elementary,
and the parents of the students participating in activities, services, and
programs funded by Title I, Part A of the Elementary and Secondary Education
Act (ESEA) (participating children), agree that this compact outlines how the
parents, the entire school staff, and the students will share the
responsibility for improved student academic achievement and the means by which
the school and parents will build and develop a partnership that will help
children achieve the State’s high standards.
This school-parent compact is
in effect during school year 2013-2014.
School Responsibilities
The faculty and staff at Raymond L. Young Elementary School
will:
1.
Provide
high-quality curriculum and instruction in a supportive and effective learning
environment that enables the participating children to meet the State’s student
academic achievement standards as follows:

Recruit and
retain highly-qualified principals and teachers.
·
Provide
high-quality professional development for all employees based on the latest
research into best practice.
·
Maintain a safe
and positive school climate.
2.
Hold
parent-teacher conferences (at least annually) to discuss the individual
child’s achievement. Specifically, these conferences will be held:
·
At times mutually
convenient for teacher and parent during planning time, before school, or after school.
·
Meeting will be
used to discuss grades, build positive relationships, set goals for the future
or any topic where the teacher and parent can work together for the benefit of
the student.
3.
Provide parents
with frequent reports on their children’s progress. Specifically, the school
will provide reports as follows:
·
A weekly folder
containing work sample.
·
A report card at
the end of each grading period and a progress report at the midpoint of each
six weeks.
·
Notes from
teacher to parent as needed.
·
Phone calls from
teacher to parent as needed.
4.
Provide parents
reasonable access to staff. Specifically, staff will available for consultation
with parents as follows:
·
By appointment
during the teacher’s planning time.
·
By appointment
after school.
·
By appointment
before school.
·
On a daily basis
by phone. (Teachers return calls on a daily basis).
5.
Provide parents
opportunities to volunteer and participate in their child’s class, and to
observe classroom activities, as follows:
·
Listening to
children read.
·
Helping with
classroom decorations, art projects, etc.
·
Presenting a
program on your culture, your occupation, a different country, etc.
·
Assist with
holiday programs or parties, educational trips, etc.
Parent Responsibilities
We, as parents, will support
our children’s learning in the following ways:
- Monitoring attendance and seeing that child is on
time each day (beginning at 7:45 a.m.).
- If at all possible, schedule appointments after
the end of the school day at 2:35 p.m.
- Making sure homework is completed and all forms
or notes are signed and returned to the school.
- Ensure that electronic devices and cell phones
remain at home.
- Volunteering in my child’s classroom.
- Helping students to get plenty of rest each
night.
- Participating, as appropriate, in decisions
relating to my children’s education.
- Promoting positive use of my child’s
extracurricular time.
- Staying informed about my child’s education and
communicating with the school by promptly reading all notices from the
district received by my child or by mail and responding, as appropriate.
- Serving, to the extent possible, on policy
advisory groups, such as being the Title I, Part A parent representative
on the school’s School Improvement Team, Title I Policy Advisory
Committee, District Wide Policy Advisory Council, State’s Committee of
Practitioners, School Support Team or other school advisory or policy
groups.
We, as students, will share
the responsibility to improve our academic achievement and achieve the State’s
high standards. Specifically, we will:
- Come to school prepared with homework and supplies.
- Ask for help, if needed.
- Show respect for myself, others, and the school.
- Alert adults of bullying situations.
- Read 20-30 minutes every day outside of school
time.
- Give to my parents or the adult who is responsible
for my welfare all of the notices and information received from my school
every day.
- Get plenty of rest.
- Come to school on time and limit checkouts.
- Believe I can and will learn.
- Complete homework and turn it in on time.
- Obey classroom, school, and bus rules.
- Leave all electronics and cell phones at home.
- Always do my best work.
