Everyone Wants to be a TOP DOG! Revisited...

Looking at old posts from last summer and wanted to share this funny!
I ran to the school to pick up something and let my doggie, Chipper go along for the ride. I snapped this picture of him sitting under the TOP DOG (No tardies, checkouts, or absences) bulletin board in the main building. Silly dog, he probably would come every day if I let him!

p.s. He did NOT like the shiny floors, I think he thought they were wet.

Summer is Here...Busy Time for Custodial and Maintenance Crew

I always get excited when I see a Talladega City School maintenance truck at R. L. Young because I know great things are being done.

Our summer projects include:
Drop ceiling in Main Building Wilson Classroom (happening RIGHT NOW!)

Paint, rewire, organize and create a 30+ desktop computer lab. Mrs. Beard will enjoy having a bigger space and more technology to use with students. (CURRENTLY BEING DONE!)

All carpets are cleaned. (Thanks, Mr. Jemison)

All tile floors are stripped and rewaxed. (Project close to completion)

Painting has been done in many areas.

And it your absence, our pretty flowers keep blooming and waiting on all of the smiling faces to return.

Hope you are having a fantastic summer!

Mark Your Calendar for a Fun Activity for Kiddos!

The Alabama Eye Clinic on 109 Coosa Street East in Talladega is planning a KIDS DAY for August 10. The event will be carnival-themed including face painters, balloon makers, popcorn and snacks. Children will have access to games and fun activities. The clinic workers will be doing free eye screenings. Parents will be able to receive a 50% off coupon for frames. There is also a rumor that there may even be an ice cream truck!

**Thanks to Mrs. Taft for sharing this information with our parents and the community. Mark those calendars...

Don't Forget to Visit the Island!

R. L. Young students are invited to visit STUDY ISLAND throughout the summer. This free internet website is a direct connection to the skills your child learned this year. Give them some computer time and keep them learning all summer long. The big "draw" for this site is that children learn and play at the same time. On other sites, the skills may be too easy or hard, but this is tied to the current curriculum they learned this year in school.

All they do to use the free program is login. Reviewing skills will keep the mind sharp! To find the website, just look on the left side of the school's blog for the STUDY ISLAND link or click here.
Happy learning!
