The Pride of Talladega High

I got a nice letter from Talladega High's Mu Alpha Theta group. They have planned a Math Scavenger Hunt for upper Elementary students in the system.

This event shows initiative, desire to help others, and is overall quite impressive. I would be amiss not to point out that many in this group attended Young as children.
I don't know who the sponsor of this group is, but Kudos to YOU! Thanks for letting these students be creative! We love when Talladega High comes to visit and TEACH!

Gift from the Heart

Gavin C., a fourth grader at R.L. Young brought the principal a gift. Isn't he talented?

                  3rd Grade Teacher

March 13  Mrs. Mellon
                 Buildings and Grounds

Hope your day is full of FUN!

Principal of the Day, VanDajia S.

What a lucky person I was on February 27th to have such a fine replacement for my job!  Ms. VanDajia S., a second grader in Mrs. Haynes' class, stepped up to handle many affairs at the schoolhouse.

VanDajia handled the intercom like a pro! She assisted during the Good Citizen Luncheon and even handled a little misbehaving. R. L.Young appreciated this student being the top seller in our recent student fundraiser. She did an awesome job as Principal of the Day!

A Sincere Thank You!

Schools operate on limited funds, especially when it comes to things like replacing auditorium stage curtains. But our school, Raymond L. Young Elementary, found a way to make this happen through the generosity of the following folks:
First National Bank of Talladega
Talladega City Schools
                        Mrs. Marlene Moore
 Mayor Larry Barton
Peters Enterprises, LLC
students participating in fundraiser
family and friends who purchased tumblers
We are very proud and appreciative!

Talladega City Schools Closed Today

Due to impending bad weather, Talladega City is closed today, March 5, 3015.

You Scream, I Scream, We all Scream for ICE CREAM and COOKIES

The second AR 75 Point Cookies and Cream Party with the Principal took place on
Monday, March 2, 2015 with 13 students in attendance. Students had to accumulate 75 points and maintain an 85% in comprehension using the Accelerated Reader Program to
qualify for the fun treat.

This program is used to support and supplement the regular reading series. It allows students to read and test on books that are JUST RIGHT for their current reading level. This practice strengthens the reader and allows them to advance onto more difficult material. If your child is not participating, ask them why. There are hundreds of books in the library and Mrs. Taylor, the librarian will be happy to help match them up with the perfect book!

"The more you READ, the BETTER you READ!"
