Can't Help Falling In Love with R L Young...Extravaganza Video 2009

Hey! Didn't make it to the Parent Extravaganza? Check out the video used to showcase our school.........Can't Help Falling in Love with R. L. Young!

Our classy display emphasized the strong parent and community involvement, super faculty and staff, exemplary test scores, and beautiful buildings and grounds. A special draw to the table was a great Elvis look-a-like...THANKS...Coach Stephens.

Representing R. L. Young and the district during the information sessions was Becky Armstrong and Valerie Harris. They presented along with high school teacher, Carolyn Connor on how parents can "get and stay" connected with their child's progress.

Just a good place to learn and grow.

Native American Totem Poles and Kochina Dolls

Fifth grade students, under the direction of 5th and 6th grade Social Studies teacher, Mrs. Shirley, did a wonderful job creating totem poles representing their families or making Kochina dolls.

Often times, just reading about or looking at pictures won't stick in the mind of a child. But a hands-on project creates a memory forever.

These types of assignments can only occur when there is substantial parent support at home. At Young this is just what our students have.

So hats off to our students and parents! You did an awesome job!! Great teamwork...

Always creating memories at R. L. Young!

Smokey the Bear Visits YOUNG

Everyone is America can finish the line, "Only YOU can prevent __________ (Forest Fires). Smokey made a surprise visit to the school to share important information with our k-2 students.

Mr. Layfield and other employees came to share the role that children must play in preserving our forests and woodland. Dakota is helping demonstrate the garments that must be worn when putting out forest fires.

Thank you, Smokey and Friends for visiting our school! We will do our part.

Please take your time when reading, savor each book you read, and THINK before you click your answer choice.

I'll see you in the conference room! Just follow with your nose the smell of hot PIZZA!

A New Face at YOUNG

Welcome, Tanesha Braxton to R. L. Young. She is a student at Alabama State University and is majoring in education. As all educators know, the last step for education majors is STUDENT TEACHING. Ms.Braxton has spent the past six weeks with Mrs. Vincent, a second grade teacher at Young. Presently, she is serving with Mrs. Harris, one of our fourth grade teachers.

R. L.Young is especially proud of her because she is a former student of the school and one of our parents. I have fond memories of having Ms. Braxton in class, remembering her as dedicated student and sweet child. We are proud to have her honing her teaching skills at the school. She will make a fine teacher.

Ms. Braxton and her daughter, Tra-Ni'jah.

October 19, 2009
Dear Faculty and Staff,
Thank you for the very thoughtful cards and generous gifts I received on Bosses' Day. But it is I who should be thanking you for the wonderful job you do every day. This self-motivation that you each possess touches me and the tenderness I witness as you teach, care, and reach even the unreachable is amazing.
I am blessed to have the best, most dedicated employees. Everyday you go above and beyond to make every moment count with our students. Thank you for making R. L. Young a good place to learn and grow.

National School Lunch Week...a success!

R. L. Young really enjoyed having 110 visitors this past week during National School Lunch Week. Visiting family members were greeted with a brightly decorated lunchroom emphasizing the theme, "All-Star School Lunch". October is Parent Involvement Month

October is PARENT INVOLVEMENT MONTH, but at R L Young we encourage parents to be involved all year long. One of the events at the school is the celebration of National School Lunch Week! Our school has been a buzz with parents coming to grab a quick bite and soak up some time with their child.

It is a true treat for a child to have his/her parent(s) dine with us. It is also beneficial to the parent because they can meet their child's friends, talk with the teacher, and see the student in their school environment.
The rest of this week's lunch schedule is as follows:
WEDNESDAY...1ST AND 4TH GRADE
THURSDAY...KINDERGARTEN AND 2ND GRADE
FRIDAY...5TH GRADE
We look forward to seeing you!

Plan to have supper, play bingo, go for a hayride, visit the STAGE OF FRIGHT, and so much more!
If you would like to assist with the festivities, please contact the school at 315-5888. Teachers will be sending home sign up information to man booths or games. Workers are needed and your help is appreciated.

2009 Sixth Graders Donate Trees to Campus

Last spring, our sixth graders decided to collect funds and donate trees to the new annex, which houses the fifth and sixth grade classes. This week a plaque was added to complete the generous support of our school and campus. Each day as students and teachers enter and leave the double doors of our newest building, they are reminded of a special group of students.
We miss you!!
