Talladega BOE approves 20 personnel actions

From page 1A The Talladega City Board of Education voted 4- 0 to approve some 20 personnel actions regarding certified personnel. There were no classified personnel actions presented.

Board member James Braswell was absent.

Perhaps the most notable item approved Thursday was the promotion of Shari Dye, from assistant principal at Talladega to principal at Zora Ellis Junior High School. The board accepted the resignation of former Ellis principal Scott Bailey last month.

During Thursday’s meeting, the board accepted the resignations of four people, including Ellis history teacher Thad Miller, THS physical education coach Chris Mahand, THS science teacher Dax McDonald and THS Counselor Nicole Callahan.

Mahand had previously resigned as head football coach.

The board also approved three other transfers, in addition to Dye. These included Karen Curvin ( third grade teacher at Houston to sixth grade teacher at Graham), Linda Haynes ( third grade teacher to second grade teacher at R. L. Young Elementary School) and Casey Prater ( science teacher to counselor at THS).

The remaining personnel actions were new hires. These included Kellie Payne ( third grade at Young), Julie Burel ( third grade at Young), Jacee Smith ( special education at Graham), Lori Cowart ( special education at THS), David McCorkle ( third grade at Houston), Stephen Arline ( band director at Ellis), Ruby Ellis ( math teacher at THS), Brian Stovall ( health teacher at THS), Loretta Miller Wytch ( math teacher at THS), James Browning ( history at THS), Chris Trantham ( social studies teacher at Ellis) and Brett Thomas, technology coordinator for the system.

Superintendent Doug Campbell thanked the board members for “their hard work in rounding out the roster of employees” for the coming year.

Board chairwoman Shirley Simmons- Sims agreed, adding “We need all the help and participation we can get to assist all of the children going forward. I am what I call an original Talladegan, I was born and raised here and I stayed here. I am interested in making sure we create opportunities for all of our children.”
