Parent Extravaganza 2008

The Parent Extravaganza on October 21st was a fun event held for parents of Talladega City School students. Parents were entertained by the THS Band and Dega Darlins before and during the opening session. A "Year in Review" slideshow was shared featuring highlights and accomplishments from Dr. Horton's first year as superintendent.

11 informational sessions were offered to parents and afterward everyone was invited to cruise the school and community tables in the THS cafeteria. Many participants were door prize winners thanks to the generosity of First National Bank, Houghton-Mifflin Harcourt, Talladega Superspeedway, and Pearson Company.

Other sessions included an informative meeting by Cheaha Mental Health employee Gary Garner on understanding the changes of adolescent children. Ellis teachers Ms. Webb and Ms. Foy presented on AMSTI and John Locklin TCS technology coordinator hosted a session on internet safety.
The Extravaganza was made complete with the help of Ms. Mitchell, Family and Consumer Science teacher and her students by providing childcare filled with fun activities, music, and treats.

The Talladega High School Band Booster Parents helped to furnish refreshments.

Each school was invited to show their school pride in the cafeteria of THS.

The theme for R. L. Young's table was easy...a birthday party! The school will turn 80 years old in 2009. The table was complete with a birthday banner "Celebrating 80 Years of Excellence", birthday cake, slideshow, and presents (high test scores, active PTO and parent involvement, inviting campus, highly qualified faculty and staff, great students, and community support). We also had balloons and our very own clown (THANKS, HOPE T. ALLEN).

Many community agencies were represented at the Extravaganza:

Regional Dental Center
TCS Wellness Program
Talladega Public Library
Dolly Parton Imagination Library
First Family Services
HIPPY Program
Smoke Free Talladega
Mirror Image Program
TCS Nurses
City Schools Foundation
Community Action Agency of TCRCC
Thanks to all who participated and helped with the Extravaganza.

Mrs. Thomas,
I know the time demands of the principalship are great. To be able to take on a project of this magnitude in addition to doing all that you do at your school is to be commended. This is an event that reached out to every family regardless of the school they attend. Thanks for what you do to keep not only your school, but the entire district, moving forward.

This is a great post! Our clown was precious! The table looks good, too. I didn't see a table that looked better than the others..all looked good and were examples of hard work because they care.
