AGS and Alagasco Essay Contest Winners

Fifth grade students recently took part in an essay contest sponsored by AGS and Alagasco. 4th, 5th, and 6th grade students all over Alabama were eligible to participate. Their assignment included writing about a special person 60 years of age or older who had taught them about skills, values, self confidence, and life lessons. With over 200 essays submitted, 13 winners were selected from Alabama.
R. L. Young had 3 essay winners!

The grand prize winner was CONNOR GASKIN. He along with the person featured in his story (his grandmother, Mrs. Slaughter) will be featured as the cover photo of the ASG 2009 Calendar. He will receive a $100 savings bond and attend the 2009 AGS Conference at the Wynfrey Hotel in April.

The two other winners included KELSEY GRANGER & LYNDSEY DAVIS. Both girls will be featured in a photo in the 2009 AGS Calendar and awarded a $100 savings bond. The classroom teacher, Mrs. Nelson is to be commended for spearheading this contest at Young. She will be awarded $100 per winner to use in her classroom. CONGRATULATIONS!
