There's a new trophy winner at R. L. Young for the week of Dec. 14-18th. Each week, classrooms compete for the highest comprehension %. The last week's winner (before Christmas) isMRS. BROOK'S first grade! CONGRATULATIONS!
It is also a pleasure to announce that the school's comprehension level as a whole is 84%. The goal for the school and for individual students is 85%. As of January 6, our students have taken 11,866 quizzes and passed 10,943! We are extremely impressed that the comprehension level for students and the school continues to rise. 84% is higher that last year's percentage. This continuous improvement is due to the efforts of our librarian, Mrs. Lane, teachers, students, and parents that promote this wonderful program.
There is NO penalty for students who participate in the Accelerated Reader program and the benefits are bountiful. The more children read the BETTER they read. But comprehension is not just reading a book, but understanding and remembering what has been read. The Accelerated Reader Program allows students to really discover how well they read each book AND is making a HUGE difference in readers at R. L. Young!
Check out our "TOP 20" Board the next time you visit the school. The competition is fierce and the names continue to change each week. The location of our end of the year AR field trip has been kept TOP SECRET and will be revealed soon. Students who earn the points required will be invited to attend the trip at NO cost thanks to the generosity of our wonderful PTO!
